What is Neural HRV?

A quick, non-invasive snapshot of your nervous system—plus a clear way to train it with BrainTap

The BrainTap Neural HRV Assessment is a short, non-invasive test that measures heart rate variability (HRV)—the tiny changes in time between heartbeats that reflect how well your autonomic nervous system balances stress (sympathetic) and recovery (parasympathetic). Using a comfortable finger or ear sensor, we record a few minutes of resting data (and, when appropriate, paced breathing or a brief position change). You’ll receive an easy-to-understand report showing overall stress load, recovery capacity, and nervous-system balance. Results are educational and used to guide wellness choices; this is not a medical diagnostic test.

Because HRV is trainable, the assessment pairs beautifully with the BrainTap headset. Many clients like to do a quick pre- and post-check around a BrainTap session to see shifts toward parasympathetic relaxation, then re-test periodically to track longer-term improvements. Together, Neural HRV and BrainTap let you measure how you’re doing—and train your nervous system to become more resilient over time.

HRV is the moment-to-moment variation in the time between your heartbeats. More adaptable variation generally reflects a more flexible, resilient nervous system; lower variation can reflect higher stress load or reduced recovery capacity. HRV is a wellness metric—not a diagnosis.

It looks at patterns related to autonomic balance (sympathetic vs. parasympathetic activity), overall stress load, and recovery capacity. Your report translates these into easy-to-read scores and graphs for educational purposes.

You’ll sit comfortably while a sensor clips to your finger or ear. We record a few minutes of resting data and may include paced breathing and/or a brief posture change. The software generates your report, and we’ll review key takeaways and suggested next steps for your wellness plan.

For the most consistent results, arrive well-hydrated and avoid vigorous exercise, caffeine, alcohol, and heavy meals for 2–3 hours beforehand. Try to arrive a few minutes early to settle in and breathe normally.

Yes. The assessment is non-invasive and simply measures signals from your body; it does not deliver any electrical stimulation. If you have medical questions (e.g., implanted cardiac devices or specific diagnoses), please consult your healthcare provider. This service is for educational wellness purposes only and is not a medical test.

Many people start with a baseline, then re-test every 4–6 weeks—or after introducing a new wellness habit or therapy—to see how their nervous system is adapting.

Not required. However, pairing HRV with BrainTap (or other relaxation modalities) can help you see how your nervous system shifts pre- and post-session and can inform your personalized plan.
